Walk-In Wet-Room Transformation, Altrincham

A cramped, dated 1980s bathroom in Altrincham, WA14, completely stripped out and rebuilt as a luxury walk-in wet room — one of our most technically demanding bathroom projects to date. The brief was a fully open, level-access wet floor with a large-format stone-effect tile bed and a digital dual rainfall shower, which meant the structure had to come first. The existing floor joists weren’t rated to carry the weight of a large-format tile bed laid to falls, so the subfloor was reinforced with additional framing to take the load without any deflection. With the structure sound, the entire wet area was tanked using a multi-stage Schlüter-Systems waterproof membrane, and a hidden linear drainage channel was set in with precision falls across the whole floor so water runs cleanly to the drain from every direction — the part of a wet room that has to be millimetre-accurate or it simply doesn’t work. Italian porcelain tiles were set across the walls and floor, electric underfloor heating laid beneath, and a digital dual rainfall shower matrix installed and commissioned. First-fix plumbing was rebuilt from scratch, with concealed copper supplies and a re-run soil pipe, and the whole project was delivered entirely in-house — our own plumbers, tiler and electrician — so there was a single point of accountability throughout. Handover was a clinical deep clean, a grout-line-by-grout-line inspection and a pressure test of every concealed seal alongside the owners. The finished room is dramatic enough that the professionally lit after photos are ideal for marketing.
