A large Victorian property in Chorlton, M21, with 15 radiators that were lukewarm at best, severe cold spots throughout, and a boiler kettling loudly under load. Three separate heating engineers had already been out and all reached the same conclusion: "you need a new boiler." The owners came to us for a second opinion before committing to a replacement they couldn’t quite believe was necessary. Our pre-flush thermal-imaging survey told a different story — the boiler itself was mechanically sound, but the system was choked with decades of magnetite sludge and iron oxide restricting flow through the radiators and the heat exchanger, which was the real cause of both the cold spots and the kettling noise. Rather than sell an unnecessary boiler, we recommended a genuine full-day deep power flush. We connected an industrial Kamco rig and drove pulsed water and chemical cleaning agents through every radiator and pipe circuit, reversing direction regularly, and manually agitated each of the 15 radiators in turn to break up the compacted deposits — with magnetic filtration running throughout to capture the ferrous debris as it lifted. Once the water ran clear the system was dosed with long-life Fernox inhibitor and every radiator balanced for even output. The difference was dramatic: every radiator now blasts out heat evenly, and the boiler noise stopped entirely. The thermal before-and-after shots show cold radiators transformed into evenly glowing panels — and the owner saved over £2,500 by not replacing a boiler that was never actually the problem.
